Hi I am looking for any British citizens that have travelled to Mongolia under the new visa free laws? I have seen sources saying it is visa free for all British citizens (including UK gov website) but I have also seen sources saying that it is only visa free for British citizens with DIPLOMATIC passports (including press releases from Mongolia). Does anyone have concrete information, or has been allowed in without visa on a regular passport?. Thanks

I haven't done it but will be in Mongolia in September. According to my travel agents arranging my visas, they removed the visa requirement for UK passport holders - this only only a few months ago so maybe that's why you are finding conflicting information.
Hi Chris,
If you read the front page of the Mongolian Embassy in London's website it confirms that UK ordinary passport holders are entitled to up to 30 days visa free (you can extend that to 60 when you are here). The diplomatic exemption is basically irrelevant as it applies to anyone from anywhere travelling anywhere holding any kind of diplomatic passport. That's why they don't give them out very often.

You can call them on 020 79370150, follow the instructions to get through to an English speaking operator and they'll confirm for you.
I've already had visitors in UB who have travelled here under the new regulations without any problems.
Good Luck.

Hi Chris,
Thanks so much for this info, just exactly what I wanted to hear! Do you know if it is still necessary to register in UB under the new regulations?
Thanks again
Hi Chris,
So in the past you've never needed to register for stays of 30 days and under which will still be the case with the new visa on arrival arrangement. If you want to extend your stay then you will need to fill in a form (in English) at the office of immigration just beside Chinggis airport and pay around $60 - $80 I think - not sure on current price.
So it just depends on how long you want to stay. <30 days = no registration, >30 days = registration necessary.
It's a really easy process in either case and they are very used to dealing with foreigners all day long so are quite helpful as long as you get their attention.
Hope this helps but feel free to ask anything else.
Good Luck,
Chris.

Chrisdsmith - thanks for that precise info. I was about to go through the visa agency I regularly use and there was a notice posted" "As of the 25th June, 2014 until the 31st December 2015, the nationals of United Kingdom can travel to Mongolia without a visa and stay for up to 30 days on each visit" which left me a little confused (visa agencies promoting visa-free travel, what were they thinking). This thread seems to have confirmed it. Thanks to all
