Does anyone know of any further advances? I'm in UB now, going to the chinese embassy tomorrow to find if I can get three of us visas on UK passports. Does anybody know if they do transit visas? I understand a transit visa is valid for 7 days, probably enough to get me to Beijing :S and then flying to NZ.

Sounds like a nightmare either way!

You might be able to get a transit visa for China if you have tickets out of the country but honestly the only thing different would be the cost and perhaps not needing a sponsor as I suspect that every other requirement will be the same.
