Tokyo

We (myself, the parents in-law & a four year old) have a two night stop over in Tokyo between the 18th & 20th of Jan & are wondering how far in advance it is advisable to book hotels. We would require two rooms & are thinking to stay in Ginza or Shinjuku areas. We are keen to check out the fish market, we do have a four year old in tow so any kiddie friendly pointers on activities other then the market would be appreciated. Don't want to jam to much in just a taster of Tokyo. My choice would…

Hi

We have been in Japan for 12 days and are travelling without a JR pass. So far we have visited fukuoka, hiroshima, onomichi (2 days beautiful cycle across the islands), Himeji, Osaka, Koyasan. We are now in Kyoto for 5 nights and will then have 7 nights before arriving in Tokyo for the final 4 nights.
We would like to experience more of the beautiful scenery and wondered if anyone had any route ideas. We could go to Kanazawa, and take in the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, and Fuji lakes? I…

Hello everyone,
I’m seeking advice on options for daily trips around Tokyo and Kyoto. I am planning on visiting Hakone (before going to Tokyo) and Nikko (as a daily trip from Tokyo) but I’m still missing 1-2 good options for a daily trip in the area. Best would be if the destinations were reachable on a JR rail pass.
When it comes to the area around Kyoto, I already have Himeji and Osaka as options for short trips from Kyoto on my itinerary. I would like to have 1-2 more just for the sake of…

Hi -

Has anyone had any recent experience with the Japan travel sim and the accompanying Brastel card for calling and a Japanese number?

I'm looking at purchasing the 3GB sim for a 31 day trip, and would find the Japanese number useful but I don't know that it is any better than just buying a data sim and then buying a Japanese Skype number.

Anyone with personal experience that can offer some advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Hello there,

We're due to walk the Nakahechi trail of the Kumano Kodo and It seems to be really tricky to find any accomodation near Koguchi (all the options listed on the Tanabe Tourist Bureau site are booked out).
Does anyone know of any good options to stay? We'd be walking from Yunomine Onsen and don't really want to go back on ourselves. Is there another town further along the course where you think we could reach the same day and find somewhere?

Hope someone can offer some help. Thanks a…

Hello fellow travelers,
Due to the recent weather occurrences in Japan, I'm getting a bit freaked out about the possibility of extreme weather conditions at the time I will be travelling to Japan (end of September to mid October). I am planning on staying in/around Tokyo, in/around Kyoto and then heading off to Yaeyama Islands. Do you have any tips on where to search for reliable weather predictions? Do you know of any weather-related warnings yet?
Thank you in advance,
Aleksandra
