I booked a ticket to Naha for Dec 1 to 4 with no definite plans on what to do other than rest in a beach (doesn't have to be too quiet, but definitely not Thailand-crowded) and maybe shop a little. I am ambivalent on whether to stay in the main Okinawan Island or to travel further to Miyako-jima or Ishigaki-jima islands. Essentially, I only have three days and two nights for the beach, since I need to be back in Naha on the night of Dec 3. I just want convenient access to at least a decent…

Hey Guys,
I'm going to Japan late March/ early April; I'm gonna spend around 3 weeks there and see a couple of cities, I wanted to know what time is the best for catching cherry blossoms in each of these cities and if it's not yet known when can I check again? (Also any cherry blossom festival recommendations are welcome!)
Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Nagoya, Kobe

Good day all,

Looking at a 16 night itinerary for Japan for our Honeymoon next year. Read through a few good ideas on here so this is our initial plan, what do you guys think? We are in Thailand for 9 days before this too :)

6 nights in Tokyo
2 nights in Mt. Fiji / Five lakes area
4 nights in Kyoto
2 nights Hiroshima/Miyajima
2 nights Osaka

Questions...
1. Highlights/must-dos in Tokyo and is 6 nights about right?
2. How is best to get to the Mt. Fiji area, is it worth the climb in August and where…

Hi,

I’m traveling in late February to Tokyo, as one of my dear friends is running in the marathon February 25th. The following day, we will leave Shinjuku and take off for five days to explore other areas outside of Tokyo. On our list is Kyoto, Nagano to see the snow monkeys at and to go downhill ski (me) and snowshoe (her), and a stop at Nara if we have time to see the Great Buddha. I’m an intermediate skier and my friend wants to go on a guided snowshoe tour while I’m skiing. Any…

Hi folks,

Getting ready to travel so thank you very much for all the help so far.
A couple of head scratchers have popped up so any guidance much appreciated please:

  1. Can anyone recommend a good place to hire a mobile phone, even a smartphone and roughly how much are they? There seem to be many offered online.

  2. I presume we can buy a voltage adapter locally - again too many online to be happy picking one.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Hey guys,

Have been scrolling through a lot of posts and am currently planning my own 3 week Japan stay with my girlfriend.

As we are both first timers to Japan we want to do the typical spots (Tokyo, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Miyajima, etc.). We would probably book all hotels / ryokan in advance which would make our schedule a bit inflexible.

My question is if this plan is not too packed:

Day 1: Saturday - arriving in Osaka probably in the morning. Stay the day there
Day 2: Sunday - either staying in…

I am going to need a large taxi to take my bike box to the airport. Is it best to just ask my hotel to arrange. I am in Fukuoka, so not far to go.

I know it seems an obvious question, but for all I know, booking a taxi through your hotel may be a definite no no.

I don't speak Japanese, so this will limit my other options.

We are here in Kanazawa and there is going to be quite a bit of rain during our 3-day stay. We are watching the weather very carefully to fit in the outdoor activities we want to do but would really appreciate some recommendations for museums, preferably art-oriented, for when the rain comes down (pretty drenching!). We did go to the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art for lunch (!!), which was lovely, but did not fancy any of the exhibits and what was on offer, prefer something slightly…
