Just a quick question on the best, simplest way to travel from Nagoya International Airport to JR Station, downtown Nagoya, as I will be staying at the Marriott Hotel.

I'm going to be in Japan in November for 8 days as part of an around the world trip. I have been told by an S.T.A representative that I have to buy a rail pass; it’s the only way to travel around Japan. If I don’t buy a rail pass it will cost me £50 to get from the airport to central Tokyo and without one I will have to stay in my hotel room. I believe a rail pass is £170 per week.
I was just wondering if there are any cheaper options.

I posted back in June questioning whether the rainy season in Japan really deserved the title. I still think it would be better named "drizzly gloomy season" but there has unquestionably been a rainy season this year, even though it started late, and now it seems to be dragging on forever.

Does anyone know when the front is forecasted to move away from Kanto this year? I'm getting tired of the unrelenting gloom.

I did not expect to be going to Japan, but have a free stop-over so am taking 12 nights there from Aug 16 to 22.

I have arranged for a hotel room in Tokyo for my first three and last two nights and have bought a 7 day rail pass. I know that I want to spend time in Kyoto and to visit at least one hot spring that will accept a non-Japanese bather.

Although I am studying my guidebook, the choices are overwhealming. I would appreciate advice on the best way to organize the train travel to take…

I am hearing different things about whether people with tattoos (large ones, not the little butterfly thingy) are allowed into public hot baths in Japan. Has anybody ever been refused entry or been evicted (if so, please let me know where).

Hello hello,

I've got a JR Pass to exchange when I arrive in Japan (soon). I've yet to read up on a few things, but I thought it worth asking if any one knows if you can use the JR Pass for metro (initially in Tokyo) and ferries around the place?

I'm pretty sure it won't be worth pittence for a ferry from Osaka to Shanghai, but if you know it is then let me know!

I will be going to be calling Sendai home for a year and was wondering if anybody knew about any surf spots in the area. Also, how accessible are board rentals are I guess prices on boards in general.

Looking at a map, it appears that it's on the same latitude as New York so I am assuming the water can get a little chilly in the winter time and a 4/3 wetsuit will not suffice. Can anybody confirm this?

im looking for a flight from Japan back to Germany (we travel to Japan per train), and now i have found some travel agencies like no1 travel and so on. But, it is possible to book the flight in Europe and get the tickets in Japan? Or do we have to book the tickets when we are in Japan?
