If you are planning to go to Yakushima island in Japan,I strongly recommend not to chose your accomodation called "Chinryuan".
They are so crazy about gaining more money as much as they can get!
If you stay there,on the last day of your stay,you will be surprised the extra charge they requre you!
It will be obviously over charged! Even if you ask them to show the breakdown of the extra charge, they just say they haven't got time to make such a thing! That's their excuse to make more money! so mean persons. and They are thief!
And they don't speak English well. Their Englosh is so poor to communicate with you. then you can't even complain.(they don't understand.) so that the information how to spend your time nicely and good places to go in Yakushima is only given to Japanese guests.
So,you might get lost in a isolated island...
And most of the Japanese guests stay there are genophobia. you will feel lonely if you are traveling alone.
I suggest you to stay accomodation owned by local people. Local people never cheat. They are innocent and very kind.
(Ryuchinan's owner is a escaper from metropolitan. means he is loser!)
BE CAREFUL!! DON'T STAY AT RYUCHINAN!!!
And make the most of your travel in Yakushima! Have a nice trip!

Too bad you had a negative experience. Xenophobic? Maybe. Out to hose tourists for a few yen? No way. What were the extra expenses you incurred, and how much did they total? Perhaps the 5% sales tax they added?
What kind of extra charges. 100's of yen or 1000's of yen ? Yakushima is remote and things tend to be pricey in remote areas.
The extra charges they require are drinks, using washing machine, taking shower, lunch and rental bike etc... though, they add more fee for things you didn't do or order. in my case, I had 3 beers but they charged double. and for rental bike, the fee was 980yen for 4h. but they charged the cost of using whole day(24h).
That's true Yakushima is remote island. but things are same price as main land's. I went to some super markets, then I found things are not expensive. Actually other foreigner guests are also very upset about the owner's behavior.
I am noticing here because I don't you to be a victim.

Yakushima is extreamly beautiful island. that's why I have been there many times.
Every time I difinitely enjoyed everything. but this time was disaster that's because of the accomodation.
I had not experienced feeling so bad staying in Yakushima like this way before.
That was really pity... Please tell your friends "Bon Voyage!!"
