hi, i was in japan a few years ago and found an area of town with many toy/collectible shops. the shops were all independently owned and very small - not like kiddieland (which is the bomb btw) :D! they were small and crowded and usually hidden on 2F or B1 spaces. anyone know what im talking about?

No, I have no idea what you are talking about :-) but Shimokitazawa is the place where you can find all those retro toys, old style Japanese sweets and fancy goods in the small shops. (not usually hidden on the 2F or B1 though)

There are also some similar shops in Kichijyoji where you can find old Fisher Price toys, retro Japanese toys, etc.

Also Kuramae is known as "Toy Town" in Tokyo (wholesale district) but I guess this is not what you are looking for.
