Although worthwhile is subjective as I have a keen interest in Japanese history and Bizen area has had a long history of making swords and ceramics.
It is a bit off the beaten track, although not as far off as Oyamazumi Shrine. Even the Tokyo Sword Museum is hidden away in a non-touristy area of Shinjuku/Shibuya.

The Tokyo Sword Museum is definitely going on our list of things to do, thank you for mentioning it!

I'll pass all of this information onto my partner, and he can let me know what he thinks.. I suspect we may be stopping in Okayama both for Osafune, and for the gardens - I think both sites are enough to justify the stop.

Thanks again for your help, it's much appreciated!

I just looked up the location of the Tokyo Sword Museum on google maps to remind myself how to get there and google is saying that it is Permanently closed.
Checked their website and it is saying the the exhibition is closed until spring of 2018 so I'm not sure what is going on.
Pity really as they had a good collection.

Have discovered what is going on with the Tokyo Sword Museum. They are in the process of moving to a new location in Sumida ward, not far from the Kokugikan sumo stadium and the Edo Tokyo Museum. Scheduled to open January 2018 according to their information sheet
