wondering if the road from Matsumoto to Takayama (route 158?) would be open in late March or do they close it due to snow?
If it were open, would we need snow tyres?

This should be open year-round unless there is exceptionally lots of snow (unlikely in late March). Snow tyres are probably a good idea here.
