Hello,

If we go to Japan after Golden Week, would anyone recommend that we only reserve seats as we go or reserve seats for our entire trip at once?

When I had a pass,I never reserved all my seats in advance.Either a day or two before,or else I just got on the train and went to the unreserved cars.

It is almost never a problem, apart from very popular destinations at very popular times of year, particularly if you are boarding at an intermediate station rather than the starting one.

Thank You. Do you know if you can also make reservations at one place for all your trains for that day? ( Ie book seats at the airport for both the Narita Express and Shinkansens)

Not 100% sure, but I believe for the situation you describe that should not be a problem.

There could be some problems if you are trying to do this at a small station or if your route covers more than one of the JR Group companies (JR West/East/Central/....).

I'm pretty sure you can do that for (say)Narita-Tokyo-Kyoto,for example.
