I just got back from Nikko and it was sooo cold there. Easily 10 degrees cooler than Tokyo. I foolishly didn't take any really warm clothes and nearly froze. If this summer contines being cooler than usual make sure you have at least one warm sweater/ fleece if visiting anywhere that's considerably above sea level (Nikko is about 1000m).
