One of the ever dwindling number of regions of Kansai that I don't know at all is the north of Osaka-fu. I have basically never explored anywhere north of the city of Osaka itself. There are numerous towns and cities here, and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people.

So, simple question really: is there anything in this region worth exploring?

I know very little about it, so am open to any suggestions. Is the Expo site worth exploring? Are there any interesting temples or places of beauty tucked away in the hills? Any unique urban sights? Any commuter towns that are more interesting to wander than they seem from the train?

Many thanks for anyone familiar with this area.

I went to the Expo Park but don't remember more than the Tower of the Sun, which I liked. Nearby is the Tadao Ando "Church of the Light", but did not make it there as it was closed that day.

There is also Minoo Park (also spelt Minoh). A forested valley with a waterfall and hiking paths. It also has an onsen nearby. I haven't been there but plan on visiting there the middle of next month

Okay, thanks for the tips! I'll have a look into them whenever I try and visit the region.
