Where is the best place to buy the Narita Express Tickets? At the airport? If I do not know my exact time of return trip, then is it open/ flexible?

If we are talking about the N'EX Tokyo Round Trip TIcket, your questions are answered on the official website.

Quoting from there:

It can be bought from JR EAST Travel Service Centers and from JR Ticket Offices (Midori-no-madoguchi) at Narita Airport Terminals 1 and 2·3, i.e. at Narita Airport only.

You can reserve seats in advance, but don't have to. Even without a seat reservation you can board the train and occupy a seat. In case another passenger arrives with a seat reservation for your seat, you have to move to another seat. In my experience the N'EX is usually half empty, so having a seat reservation is not really necessary.

BTW, note that there are many alternative options for getting to Tokyo from Narita Airport, many of them costing only around 1000 yen, i.e. half price of the N'EX Tokyo Round Trip TIcket. Also, make sure that the N'EX is convenient for your hotel location.

As above.Check where you are going in Tokyo first...there are usually cheaper options than the Narita Express.

But if you want to use it,that's easy enough to do last minute

You don´t have to specify the return date/hour at the time of purchase, but remember that the return ticket is valid only for 14 days. You can purchase the ticket at the airport, as far as I remember it was very easy to find the JR counter.
