Thanks bamse, I'll look into those places.

Has anyone been to Okazaki?

All right, better late than never... I have finally booked my trip to Nagoya!

I'm going for the long weekend, so I will have three days in and around the city. That means ample opportunities for daytrips. I'm only looking to daytrip to places south and east from Nagoya.

I might ask a new question on the forum, but does anyone have any tips for daytrips? So far what interests me is Nishio-shi (where there's a National Treasure; I know nothing else about the city); Okazaki (for its Tokugawa-related history); and perhaps somewhere in Shizuoka-ken, maybe even Shizuoka itself. Shizuoka seems pretty far on the normal trains for a daytrip though, and I'm not sure how interesting it is. Any thoughts? Anything else on the main train line there worth visiting? I can't say Hamamatsu screams at me, for example, but....?

I've never been to Shizuoka at all really, so it would be nice to see something of the prefecture, if I can.

Also: anyone have any great plans for saving me money on transportation? I plan on using lots of regular trains, I think. I don't believe we're in one of those periods where I can buy any passes on the regular trains. Are there any other ideas that anyone can think up?

Perhaps the Aozora Free Pass could make sense depending on where you go.

Thanks bamse. I don't think the pass is going to be useful.

A couple of quick questions. First, I think I'm going to visit the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, since I might as well visit a Toyota museum while I'm in Nagoya, and I like that it seems to be set in old brick buildings. Would that be the pick of the bunch? It seems like it might actually be interesting...

Next, any thoughts on Nagoya's railway museum? I really, really like the railway museum in Kyoto, but more for its old feel and old trains than anything else. Nagoya's version seems more modern and perhaps less fun. Any thoughts?

Finally, since it's November, there's not a lot of sunlight in Japan! I'm going to have long, dark evenings to kill. What are the best places in the city to hang out after dark? Is there anywhere along the sea that's nice? Come to think of it, is there anywhere around Nagoya where you can get nice views of the bay?

I think I've decided to stick to Aichi for the trip, incidentally - I think there's enough there to keep me occupied without heading off to Shizuoka. So, any tips on Aichi are more than welcome!
