Would a trip to the Miho museum by public transport be a full day trip from Kyoto or can it be done in less time than that? I'm only planning to see a few museums on my 12-day Japan trip... would the Miho merit a visit? Thanks.

Actually, while we're on the topic, what are your favourite museums in Japan? Hi-tech, art, wacky, whatever. I'll be in Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and surroundings. Any fun / impressive / overwhelming museum tips welcome.

Kyoto Municipal Museum's has a great exhibit on at the moment- a collection from the Hermitage Museum, until 5/13. Here's the link to the Miho Museum. I think it takes about an hour to get there from Kyoto. Over here in Okayama you can visit the Chichu Art Museum on Naoshima Island. I hear the place is very quirky and very cool (the staff even have to get funky haircuts to work there!) Cheers!
