Hello,
My husband, baby and I have a domestic flight booked out of Osaka airport at 10am (Monday 6th Nov) and will be coming from Kyoto. I was wondering what the best way to get to airport was as I know it will be busy with commuters getting to work and was recommend to avoid travelling on train between 6am - 9am? Should I pay a little extra and get the airport limousine bus? Also how long before the flight do we need to check in?

Thank you in advance. :-)

The airport is on the Osaka Monorail. You can transfer to that from Hankyu(at Minami ibaraki) or Keihan(at Kadomashi) from Kyoto, but NOT JR. From JR you will have to transfer an additional time.

If you are using a search function, make sure you are going to Osaka Airport Station, not Itami or Kita-Itami, which are on the other side of the runway and the river and do not serve the airport.

A 10am flight, I think it would be pretty easy to get on one of the trains in Kyoto heading for Osaka. Being the terminus, the train will be completely empty. Then you will get off and transfer to the monorail, which isnt too busy.

If you want to try your hand with the bus, go for it. Just make sure you get on the express bus to Itami and not Kansai airport.

will be coming from Kyoto.

Where in Kyoto?

Also how long before the flight do we need to check in?

Your ticket and/or airline website should tell you. In my experience most anywhere in the world around 1 hour before the flight is a safe bet.

I would take the limousine bus. You leave from Kyoto Station and go straight to the airport - no transfers, no worries about luggage on a crowded train, etc. You're there in less than an hour. Here's the bus schedule.
