Hi There, I've always checked out LP before travelling but have never posted, so here goes...
My wife and I are looking for some help with our upcoming trip to Japan. We've never been before and we're really excited to spend 9 days there from the 28th of October this year.
We realise it's not a huge amount of time and we don't want to spend it all travelling from place to place and just 'checking off' to-do items. We like to get a feel for the real places we travel, not just the tourist sights.
We're Australian, late 20's/early 30's, are very active and we don't speak a lick of Japanese.
We're flying in and out of Tokyo.
We love big city's (we spent a month just in NYC last year) but are happy to get out of town to get a sense of what else Japan has to offer. We both enjoy temples but don't want to spend all our time checking them out. We've travelled through Asia a fair bit and after a couple of temple visits we're generally ready for something else.
I've heard good things about Kyoto and Hiroshima but am concerned about commuting, from what I can see the JR pass doesn't look that economical getting between those 3 cities.
I'm also keen for an Onsen experience. Again, we probably want to do it just the once so we want to do it right.
I've also heard that Osaka is not worth it.
That's about all I have, really looking forward to people's suggestions. Thanks!
