Takayama to Magome would be easy enough to do in one day. Why did you pick Gifu? Is there something particular you want to see there? I quite like the city, but it’s not an obvious choice for first time visitors in Japan. Gifu and Hikone are close to each other, at any rate. I think a night in Hikone is a good choice. There’s at least one nice hostel in town as well, in a lovely traditional house.
