Hello- I have a short trip to Tokyo (Nov 5-11) and would like to do a day trip to Hakone from Tokyo to ride the norimono (assorted modes of transport) and to see Mt Fuji from afar. But every tour company I've found has TWO HOURS of shopping at a nearby mall, which I don't want (no shopping, please!)

Does anyone have recommendations on a tour company or private guide that covers just travel/transit and a nice tour of hakone? Thank you!

I don't know anything about tours, but doing the Hakone Loop individually is pretty straightforward. Get the Hakone Free Pass to cover your transportation and go! Transport is frequent and Hakone is fairly touristic/easy to get around as foreigner.

Thanks bamsse! This is exactly what I was looking for. Glad it's a "loop" I can just do on my own :)

Of course you are not required to follow exactly the loop, but most things of interest are along the loop anyway.

My favourites in Hakone, apart from "norimono": Open Air Museum, Owakudani (probably still closed), cedar avenue, part of the Tokaido road, view with Mount Fuji and the lake/torii (only in good weather), Yunessun (for its strangeness, not if you are looking for a nice onsen).....
