Hello I am going to the Fuji Rock Festival, what should I expect?
Mud up to my knees, fighting people, thousands of drunk people, lot of drugs, people having sex, just like Glastonbury or Roskilde?
Please tell me, last time I was at such an event was 11 years ago.
I have got a V.I.P. ticket, but not sure what does it entail.

If it is raining, you will have mud to contend with, if not, just the sweltering heat. I have been to many, many outdoor musical events in the summer and the biggest danger is dehydration. Be prepared and bring water (or buy it there for $5 a bottle!). Drug possession is a serious crime in Japan and you won't see many people doing drugs, but you may whiff the occasional joint being smoked! Sex? Nah, it'll be too hot for that. A VIP ticket will probably give you access to a space that is not as jam-packed as the general admission ticketholders, and there may even be seating. Have fun and bring plenty of sunscreen, a hat and water!

So water is for sale in Japan? Since when? You can drink anywhere I was told, it's all OK to drink, at the metro stations, toilets, airports etc.

With a VIP pass, you might be able to get backstage. If not,just push your way through and say "I'm with the band" (it helps to pretend NOT to know the language here!). Have fun!

f-rock is pretty civilized. of course theres sex and drugs etc, but not in the same way as in the west. you wont see any fighting or violence, but the fashionistas are out in force.
depending on your tastes it can either be relaxingly hassle free or just a little straight.
be aware that japanese cops get very heavy over foreigners having illegal drugs, and can sometimes target westerners to hassle. that said, there are chemicals in japan that have been banned for years in the west but are still unrestricted in japan. if you go this way be cool about it. its nice to have somewhere less drug paranoid than the west.
do expect a very japanese experience. no one does it quite like nihonjin.

Hello,
I'm also off to the Fuji Rock Festival this year - and am sycked. Will try to get backstage on my non-Japanese abilities, which would be sweet.
Does anyone know how many travelers, expats, etc. there are? It may become a little difficult three days with no one to shout at about how good the music is.
