I will land in Narita in a few weeks and plan to visit Nikko, Yokohama, and Lake Yamaguchi while I am in Tokyo. JR Japan Pass may an economical way of doing this. So here are my plan:
Day 1: Use JR Tokyo Pass (cost Y10,000) to travel from Narita Airport to Tokyo. Drop by luggage at hostel then head to Yokohama in the afternoon. Come back in the evening.
Day 2: Use JR Tokyo Pass for day trip to Nikko from Tokyo.

Day 3: Use JR Tokyo Pass for day trip to Lake Yamaguchi.

It is a tough travel schedule, but it is the only way to maximize the JR Pass. Jet leg shouldn't be a big issue since I'll on early morning flight to Tokyo from Seoul.

Qs:
1) Is this a good plan to get the JR Tokyo Pass?
2) It takes at least 2 hours to travel from Tokyo to Nikko and the earliest train I know is 7:30AM. Anyone know if I can take an earlier train from Tokyo? Would like to be there by 8AM if possible for photo opportunity and avoid crowd. Plan to visit Nikko on weekday.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

You can travel from Narita to Tokyo for $10. Tokyo to Nikko $40 round trip. Fuji Five Lakes can be done for $15-20.

You arent getting value out of the pass.

Nikko is better as an overnight, particularly in December when the days are short. If you dont get a pass, you can stay a night and have the shrines to yourself after the day trip crowds leave.

It is a tough travel schedule, but it is the only way to maximize the JR Pass.

Why are you trying to maximize a rail pass rather than maximize your vacation? It seems silly to do this only to try and get value out of an optional piece of paper.

I dont think so.

The earliest train is a Keisei Main Line Rapid at 5:17am. It arrives at about 6:30am depending on where in Tokyo you are going. The JR pass doesn't work on Keisei.
