Hi,

was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on where to go for a week of relaxing on some nice beaches in Japan. _I am currently in tokyo and looking@to leave on this sunday and do not mind where it is (all JR pass). I also know that it is peak season but after being templed out i just want some good old fashioned r&r

Cheers

Some nice little islands about an hour ferry journey from Nagasaki city, some great beaches empty with beautiful clear sea. Most people go for day trips, i went in April for only a day and the weather was colder, hence the secluded beaches. However there are hotels on the islands. Hiring bikes, spas and enough to do for a few days. The ferry was cheap too.

I've been to beaches in Wakayama and on Shikoku (Ikumi beach - Kochi). I thought they were both decent beaches - nothing compared to South East Asia or Australia - but nice and sandy. Ikumi has decent surf and attracts a surfer crowd. I enjoyed both places and they are definitely a world away from Tokyo (especially Ikumi - when I got off at the train station there was a field with cows!), but the downside is they take a bit of time to get to - not sure if that is an issue?
