We have four nights between Hiroshima and Tokyo (will have already had time in Kyoto)... keen on mountains and pretty villages and half day walks.
Where would you suggest we stay? We definitely want to do the walk from Magome to Tsumago.
We are 2 adults 2 kids (aged 1 & 5).
Keen to consider hiring a car and doing a little road trip.
Is it worth us trying to get up to Takayama?
We were originally keen on the Alpine area but will be travelling early April so thinking this will all be closed?
Thanks so much for your time and expertise!

The Kiso valley is tiny. Most people hike from Tsumago-Magome in a few hours, only a few stay in one of the tiny post towns for the night. 4 nights seems....excessive.

Takayama is well outside the Kiso valley. It is a somewhat interesting touristy town. From there you can go to the villages like Shirakawago.

Thank you for your reply.
Are there any suggestions on how to spend four nights in that general large area of Japan? (taking into account the places mentioned above that we want to see).
Many many thanks.
