Well. Actually I have read a little bit about Monkey park and now I am decided to skip it. We travel with 2 children and It seems to be an strenuous walk uphill. In august...

So we'll probably save some energy and spend it around in other Arashiyama places.

Maybe we can start in the bamboo grove after all...

Concerning the bamboo groove. Is there a way to explore it apart from the main (paved) path?
It looks like there is just this small path and no other chance to wander around...

Thanks!

There are not really other paths you can walk on in there...it is all fenced off.

That place,Kiyomizudera and Kinkakuji are probably the three most crowded tourist places in the city.

I was personally rather disappointed by Tenryu-ji, though I've only visited the gardens there, and never been inside the temple buildings. There are other seemingly interesting temples in the area though, which I've never been to.

Not only is the bamboo grove hopelessly packed, it's also world-class uninteresting. It's just a grove of bamboo. There are groves of bamboo in my village which are just as interesting, but without a single person in them snapping selfies. In the evening, they restrict access on the one little trail through the place to one-way only, and it turns into a mosh pit, to use moose's analogy. I'd avoid that area from late afternoon, especially with children.

As lucapal says, the area of Arishiyama north of there is pleasantly atmospheric, and much quieter.

Thanks!

Anyway I don't mind trying an early visit to both places as an starting point of those more interesting places in the north of Arasshiyama.

I have a Lp planet guide 2007 when I spent some days in Tokyo. In this edition Bamboo grove is not even mentioned. However in the 2017 LP guide, this place is one the key visits in Kyoto.

Difficult to say what is first. Relevance and then appear in such a popular guide, or maybe is the opposite...

Thanks!
