Hi I’m just looking for some reassurance in our itinerary for when we visit Japan for our honey moon.

Day 1 to Day 5 Staying in Kyoto with day trips to Nara and Hiroshima. We want to keep hotel hopping to a minimum so looking to use Kyoto as a base. Looking to have 3 days exploring Kyoto with 1 day for Nara and 1 day for Hiroshima

Day 6 to Day 8
Go to Kamikochi and take in the beautiful scenery on day 8 we will make our way to visit Matsumoto Castle then an Evenging train to Tokyo

Day 9 to Day 12
Tokyo with a day trip to Mt Fuji. If we make it a day trip we can be more flexible on which day we go so can check out the weather and avoids staying in too many hotels

Does this seem realistic? I have been to Japan before and I tried to do too much in a short space of time and with it being our honeymoon I want it to be a bit more relaxed and not rushing to get certain trains because we need to be at the next place. Hiroshima- Kyoto day trip seems feasible and so does MT Fuji day trip looking at the train times.

If you have any other suggestions on places to visit let me know we only have the flights booked we arrive in Osaka and leave from Tokyo but have nothing else booked yet. We go in Sept 19.

Thanks Jade

That works. Hiroshima can be done as a day trip but you need to start early. If you want to see Miyajima or Himeji along the way you'll want to have a good plan.

Figure out exactly where you want to stay and what you want to do on these days. Plan your day hikes now.

That's short in Tokyo. I'm not sure I would bother with Fuji after going to Kamikochi. You can see Fuji from Tokyo. Obviously if it is a day trip, you can do whatever you want.

Depending on where yo uwant to go around Fuji you might be better with a bus. Trains can be indirect, slow, and complicated.

Its all possible.

What do you want to do in Hiroshima? And at Mt Fuji?

Personally I'd maximize my time in Kyoto and Tokyo...the two highlights of Japan for me.

Of course you don't need to decide on day trips until you are there.See how you like your base cities and then decide...

A day-trip to Hiroshima is going to be very expensive. There are plenty of interesting day-trips much closer to Kyoto.

Do Days 1 and 12 including arriving and leaving Japan, or are those full days after you've arrived/before you leave? Especially if the former (but really, with only 12-14 days), I would only concentrate on Kyoto and Tokyo (with day trips) and leave Kamikochi/Matsumoto for another time. There's more than enough in and around both those cities to keep you busy and interested. Don't just focus on the highlights that the guidebooks promote, dig a little deeper to more local online sites (and this forum) to see what's available.
