How does the cost of Beijing compare to Bangkok? As far as food, transportation, cheap lodging etc...

I was in Bangkok a few years ago and have good feel for the costs. Would Beijing generally be higher or lower?

How is Beijing in April? Will it have started to warm up yet?

Thanks

I am staying near the train station in Shanghai for 6 days and am beginning to plan two day-trips by train to water towns. I am currently thinking of a one-day trip to Suzhou and a few days later, a second day-trip to Hangzhou. This is easily managable by train as an out and back in the same day. I can't figure out how to get to the other water towns like Xitang, Tongli, etc and back in a day. Is there an easy way to travel to other water towns by train or should I just stick to Suzhou and…

For about 120 dollars(999 yuan), visitors to China's Great Wall can now leave their mark on a fake wall built recently near Juyongguan section of the Great Wall. they hope to satisfy visitors' desire to leave something behind -- usually their name or words of love -- while discouraging them from carving graffiti on China's best-known cultural relic.

There are frequently stories in the western press about China being a 'Communist' country. I think the only thing communist about it is that the ruling party happens to be called the Chinese Communist Party and maybe that private land ownership is leasehold, not freehold.

I would have thought the actual system of government is akin to a capitalist one-party state or a capitalist party dictatorship (albeit a dictatorship whose power decreases with increasing distance from Beijing).

But there is…

Tell me, has the law changed or have I just not noticed all the fireworks during the Lantern Festival? They were going on last night, and even more so tonight. I have two Norwegian cyclists staying with me. I took them out to eat and we could barely hear each other talk. There's firecrackers and rockets and pretty things in the sky. I've never been here during the Spring Festival, but now I have an idea of what it is like in terms of noise.

I can't imagine that I didn't notice the fireworks the…

A friend of mine travels (for work) to Shanghai every month.
I would like him to buy a lens for a digital SLR camera that is not available here in Belgium.
Were can he find a big reputable shop for photografic equipment in Shanghai?

BTW, the lens is a Nikon AF-S DX VR 18-200mm F:3.5-5.6 (Productcode: NIKAFS18-200DXV).
What would the price be in Shanghai?

Dear Travel Friends,
- it difficult to change EURO currency in Yunnan (cities) against Chinese currency?
- what is a nice way to travel from Jinghong (Xishuanbanna) to Kunming? Do I miss a lot if I get a plane ticket?
- Has anyone reliable experience (if possible and) where, as a western English speaking person, to study CHINESE MEDICINE with GOOD teachers, or tell me someone in Kunming whom to ask?
THX A LOT, ijong

Which scenic area is more beautiful between Yangshuo & Guilin & the Li river? (limestone mountains & water)

Where do tourists usually stay when visiting these areas?
