Early April I want to fly from Shanghai to Vancouver (or possibly Toronto, if I can find a cheap deal). So I have been checking around and the cheapest flight I can find is OW on China Eastern MU581
Price: 2920RMB
Tax: 587RMB
Total:3507RMB
Not too bad, I guess. But I would prefer one in the same (or better) price range with a free stop-over in a 3rd location like Manilla, Hawaii or some SE Asian country. I keep hearing rumors about such options, but all the ones I could find cost a lot more. Any…
Yesterday when I walked during daylight around 6 pm across the place that becomes a food market at night in yangshou a chines guy opened the zipper of my backpack while I was walking along. I was so shocked that I could just turn around ans smack him on the shoulder and continued. Luckily he didnt get anything out of it. Please be very careful when you walk around Yangshou by yourself. I have never experienced such a thing before in China!
What time is the usual time for lunch breaks in China?

(Japan it's strictly 12-1 in offices though schools have some variation).

Hi all,
For an upcoming trip in western China, I'm trying to decide whether I should just fly from Urumqi to Dunhuang, or whether or not there are any worthwhile sites (either natural or cultural/archeological) between Turpan (close to Urumqi) and Dunhuang. For example, what about the town of Hami? Most guidebooks about the region describe it in somewhat lackluster terms, but then on the Gizi map of northwestern China I've been consulting, they identify a whole series of apparently interesting…
Hi All,
I'm looking to fly to Taiwan from England, and the cheapest option seems to be to get Oasis Airways to Hong Kong, then get another flight to Taiwan. From what I understand, this will mean I have to go through customs, get my bags, etc... and then re-check-in to Taiwan. I might have time to see Hong Kong for a couple days, but if not, how much time should I allow between flights to get through customs and check in again?
Also, about flights from Hong Kong to Taiwan, online it looks like…
man, it is so windy in Beijing right now. cold and windy. but at least it will be clear tomorrow

I wondered if anyone can tell me how the Yangtze River flooding/dam project is going.I have seen on several websites that it is no longer as spectacular as it used to be and its better use of the time (only have 2 wks!) to do other things.
Any advice gratefully received!
thanks

Regular readers may remember that Mrs Telephoto, who is from Hong Kong, wanted to ban me from visiting mainland China. Forever. She seems to think that mainland women are all husband-stealing harlots not to be trusted.
Well, she's hit on a new idea and I think I actually like this one. Like all families, everyone could do with a little extra cash, so Mrs Tele has worked out that I could travel to a low labour cost country (like mainland China) and hire mainland women for nude photoshoots, then…
