Hi,

I'll have time April 5-6 on my way from Xuzhou back to Beijing to see another Chinese city. Before I'll spend few days in Beijing and Xuzhou working. I thought about taking train to Xian (aleready asked you about that). However Ellyse mentioned Nanjin.
1. What is your advice Xian or Nanjin?
2. What should I see there?
3. Where to sleep if Nanjin?
4. I'll be traveling on my own with budget around $30-40 per night. I don't speak/read any Chinese and I'm a bit nervouse if I can make well it w/o…

When I was in China a few years ago and using the Lonely Planet Guide (of course!) I remember seeing a listing of a place referred to as Eyeglasses Alley, or something like that, where a person could get very cheap prescription eyeglasses in Beijing. A friend going to Beijing and not using Lonely Planet (the fool) is having no luck in finding such a place, where she could have new glasses made for me from the prescriptions I gave her.

Is there anyone out there with the current book who can look…

Hi am trying to gauge the weather around Ping' An, Chengyang, Xhaoxing, Rangjiang areas early/mid April. All reports vary so much some say cold, others warm mid 20's and rain, any ideas, need to know what to pack and what not to bother with. I know no-one can predict the weather, but there might be some pattern. Thanks

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help.

We arrived in Chengdu today with the idea of getting a train to Urumqi 2 days later. However, all the trains are full until April 2nd which means hanging round here for about 10 days.

Does anyone know any other way to get to Urumqi? Perhaps getting a bus somewhere else and picking up a train from there? Or any other magic way of getting a train ticket a little sooner?

Many Thanks

Jane

We are thinking of visiting China next July and have a planned itinerary of sorts and was wondering how realistic this is.

We are hoping to start of with 4nights in Hongkong. then up to Chengdu to see the Giant Pandas (2nights) then to Xian for the Terracotta Warriors(2nights) and then on to Bejing (4nights)

Are we able to get internal flights to these destinations?

Or could we get to Chengdu from Xian, by car, there and back in a day?

Would be most grateful for your answers.

Jill

Hi all. I'm in the process of thinking about my spring vacation. A friend of mine is having her wedding banquet on Hainan Island. It'll be held in her parents' hometown about two hours from Haikou. I'm invited and am considering going. Yes, I know that I need to have my head examined to even be thinking about going to Hainan during the May holiday! But that's when her ceremony will be. Since I'll be that far south, if I go, I'm looking at other places visit as well. I have friends in Shenzhen…

Many guidebooks recommend that Westerners dress very modestly in China, like no singlets or shorts? Is this true? I know it will be quite hot in Hong Kong in May, so I would like to wear singlets and shorts. And also maybe a dress when I go out at night. Is this acceptable?

Hi,

I'm in a bit of a bind because my passport is currently with an agency, but I'd like to fly within China in the meantime. I have no receipt from the PSB or elsewhere to substitute for my passport; just my USA driver's license. Does anyone know whether this will suffice for taking an intra-China flight? I've tried calling a couple of airlines, but on one seems to know for certain. I don't suppose an expired residence permit will do as a supplement? Much appreciated!
