Need to go to China in a few weeks and I'm hearing horror stories about 1 to 2 weeks to get the visa done, more than I'm prepared to live withouht a passport on hand

In BKK I got the chinese visa done in 24 or 48 hours and in HGK it's a same day process. Do they have those kind of options in the parisian chinese embassy? Besides is it possible to send a messenger to the embassy to deposit and collect the documents ? same as we do in BKK or even in Paris with the burmese embassy?

I just hate…

For land border, travellers do not need to fill in any form to declare items(only need to fill in the passport information form)

For air passengers, travellers need to fill in both. That's the practice, right?

How much cash or cheques a person can bring in/out of China?

How much duty-free allowances are given?

What items need to be declared or pay duty?

Golmud

Hello to all

I will travel to Kashgar and then to Golmud. From there I hope to get a ticket for the train to Lhasa. Does anybody know where to buy the permit for Tibet ? And how easy will it be to get a train ticket? Thanks for your response.

Colourful travels

1) Has anyone used the Taiping cable car to go up or down Huangshan before? Does it really run at hourly intervals? How many people can the cable car accommodate on each trip?

2) Has anyone any recommendations for budget accommodation in Taiping (Huangshan qu)? In Tangkou, we're looking at accommodation in triples for about 30 RMB/person, Friday night 6/4. How long is the drive (we're on hired bus) from Tangkou to Taiping?

3) Has anyone explored the Xi1 Hai3 Da4 Xia2 Gu3 aka Meng4 Huan4 scenic…

Hello, TTrs ~

My gf & self are planning a 3-day weekend trip for her b-day on the 20-22nd.

Generally, we have no problems traveling & finding accommodations (we've been based in RoKorea for 6yrs/10yrs, respectively), but we're hitting something of an oddity here now -

Rooms are reasonably priced right now, and are also in May, but for April the prices seem really, REALLY high. We usually use AsiaRooms.com as a benchmark & to help with planning, but even after spending a LOT of time on their site…

Hi,

I am planning a most typical 14-day China trip for September. We are flying into Beijing and out of Hong Kong. Here's my very tentative itinerary:

- Beijing - Forbidden City, Great Wall (which section? I am not much of a hiker), Hutong, Temple of Heaven, maybe Summer Palace (3 days)
- overnight train to Datong - CITI tour to Hanging Temple/Yungang Caves - What should we do with our backpacks? (1 day)
- overnight train to Pingyao (1 day)
- train to Taiyuan and flight to Xian - Terra Cotta…

I am planning a trip to China in mid-May and wanted some advice.

My itinerary looks something like this:

5 days in Beijing (including Great Wall)
4 days in Shanghai (including a water village)
3 days in a third place

Any suggestions of a third place?

I am considering Lijiang but am open to other suggestions, such as Xian, Pingyao, Guillin, Yangshuo, etc. Lijiang was appealing because of the natural scenery around it, the Naxi people, and the climate. The cons of Lijiang are the time to get there (4.5…

Hi,

I am actually living in China near Chengdu but have only been in China a couple of months. I have a couple of friends visiting in June/July for 2/3 weeks and we are planning a bit of a tour. Chengdu will obviously be on the itinery but only for a day or two. Want to make the most of their trip and we are all adventurous types. Would like to see some of te more remoter parts of China and throw in some relaxation maybe towards the end of their stay. Does anyone have any reccommendations???
