If you had 24 hours in Beijing, what would you do?
And which area would you stay in? (Hostel recommandations welcome)

It is my first time in China and I'm travelling there on my own, so I'm happy for any help I can get.

Hi there,

I plan to hike from Dazhai to Ping'an before heading back to Guilin by public transport late in the afternoon - say leaving at 4.30pm. I wonder what the public transport options are?

I believe I am too late for the pre-booked 'direct bus' services. I suspect the buses running between Longsheng and the mountain villages, which mainly cater for locals, are still running this late in the afternoon. Pls advise, any thanks!

I will be returning to Guilin on the 29 Oct which is a…

Hi there.
I traveled back in 2007 from Chengdu (through Sims Cosy hostel), on the train to Lhasa and had a 2 week trip through Tibet (With Tibetan Guide)to the Nepalese border via base camp.
Would like to repeat this trip next year with a friend starting in Hanoi

Im looking for advice
1/ Is it still a possible route?
2/ What is a good hostel in Chengdu now Sims is closed?
3/ Any recommended companies for the Lhasa to Nepal tour? (WIth Tibetan Guide)
4/ Any other Chinese vias advice

Hi,

I had a hostel in Beijing booked but just received an email to say its been shut down. Has anyone any recommendations? Preferably somewhere near the Forbidden City with a good atmosphere.

Also looking for a hostel in Hong Kong - all suggestions welcome. Somewhere social preferably.

Hello- I have a 17 hour layover in Shanghai the night of Saturday, Nov 4th and I am looking for tips on getting into/out of town from the airport (pudong) and how much time I should budget for travel to/time at the airport (flight from the US and to Japan), as well as the can't-be-missed places to see/things to eat and drink suggestions. I dont mind putting down $$$ (this is my only night in China!) Suggestions of hotels welcome as well!

I will be travelling along the Hexi Corridor from Dunhuang and down to Xiahe in February 2018. Chinese New Year falls on February 16, 2018. I believe this can be a chaotic time in China. Is this true in Gansu? What can I expect in terms of closures, crowds, "disruption" to "normal" routines and services?
I don't have much choice about when to go, so I want to make the most of it. Any advice re places to go to or avoid during the New Year Period, hotels, transport etc would be most welcome…

Will be in Hong Kong mid February 2018 for 5 nights. I have been there quite a few times and have stayed in Chung King Mansions and will probably have to stay there again but if anyone can recommend a place for under $125.00 AUS $ near there in Tsim Sha Tsui or perhaps as far north as Mong Kok and not far off Nathan road it would be great!
Safe travels.

Is there any point for a foreign tourist without a Chinese local ID, phone number of bank to set up a mobile payment system like WeChat and AliPay?

I've witnessed on previous trips that these are far more useful than a credit card. So I'd like to 'go local' in terms of payments.

I've had WeChat for a while but the Wallet function does not appear for me. I've tried switching the language to Chinese which should make it show up but that doesn't work either (maybe because I'm not actually IN…

Hey guys,
I'm currently in Armenia (carrying a UK and Irish passport), and hoping to go to mainland China. Does anyone know where I can get a visa from a consulate? Am pretty flexible on where to get it from as long as it's in the Silk Road region.
Hong Kong is the last choice, as it's too expensive to fly there, and would prefer to go direct to mainland china.
Thanks for any help!
