We will be in Yunnan in mid March next year. Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, maybe Shangri la, Shaxi. (Yes, I know it will be cold.) Our preference is to book tours locally once we are there. Will it be easy to find tours with english speaking guides?

Yunnan is the land of spring, it never really gets all that cold. March is a good time to visit.

What do you want in a tour? How many people? What quality level? Food and lodging included? Transport?

I wouldnt try to show up and look for a tour, you will likely pay a lot for low quality. Have to bargain hard. But then, I wouldnt be using a tour, so to each their own.

Depending where you come from, it mightn't feel like spring. Have been in Apri/Mayl and then again late September/early October and had to wear clothes in multiple layers. Included was a jacket. Had to buy thermals when in Zhongdian in the May. There was a wind that was just bitter and cut through everything.

It's easy to find guides throughout Yunnan's tourist zones, but not easy to find English speaking ones. It would be worthwhile to research the subject on Tripadvisor as well as here.
