I am (Indian passport holder) planning to visit Hong Kong for about 6-7 days in mid-Decemeber for tourism. The various Chinaese-government sites indicate that no visa is required for stay below 14 days for Indian citizens. However, nowhere it is mentioned as to how much validity the passport should have on the day of enetering Hong Kong. Most countries require minimum 6-months' validity for issue of visa. My sons' passports are expiring in May'09 and hence has only 5-months' validity. Though visa is not required, I want to confirm that they will not face any problem of enetering Hong Kong visa-free with a 5-months' validity passport. My mails to these sites/consulatess have not yielded any result yet. Can anyone help?

Enjoy.

The site referred above doesnot mention anything about validity period of the passport. The consulate in Delhi has replied to my telephone saying that there should be no problem, but I am yet to get a reply from them to my mail (a written confirmation) which will reassure me. The mails I have sent to the the immigration dept in Hong Kong has also not yeilded any reply till now. I have googled a lot, but no pin-point info yet available on the question. Let's hope it's positive news coming in.

Enjoy.

OK. I got a positive reply from the Hong Kong Immigration department mentioning "Normally, the passports presented for arriving HKSAR needs to be valid upto not less than one month on top of the visitor's intended visit here. For example, if an Indian pasport holder intends to visit the HKSAR for one week, his/her passport should be valid for one week plus one month". => That solves my queery. Thanks drumbrake.

Enjoy.

See reply number 3. If you are an Indian passport holder you get 14 days visa free entry in Hong Kong, and you your passport "needs to be valid up to not less than one month on top of the visitor's intended visit here" as per the HK immigration department reply. Contact the immigration department in HK if you want confirmation.

I presume you are an Indian passport holder?

On arrival you will get 14 days.

I then suggest, after a few days, that you go to Macau for a night (you will get 14 days visa free http://www.macautourism.gov.mo/en/info/get2macau.php ) and then when you come back to Hong Kong you should get another 14 days. Make sure that you bring your confirmed flight tickets with you when you go to Macau, in case Hong Kong or Macau immigration want proof that you are leaving the territories.

To be frank, I always sense that HK Immigration is not too welcoming towards visitors from India and neighbouring countries, especially if they suspect you're going to be looking for work in the territory. Be prepared to show a return ticket. I assume that travellers who say they'll be looking for work during their visit to HK will be denied entry.
