Hello forum.
My name is John.I am Norwegian citizen and have a 30 days tourist visa (valid for three months)to visit China at 22d of June and return flight at 21th of July.I fly from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to Beijing Capital International airport (PEK).Since my return flight is at 21.of July, i guess i am overstaying for one day, therefore i am thinking to apply a overstaying or extension of my original 30 days visa for 12 days more so i have a chance to change my return flight for 12 days(so i can cover my one day overstay as well as having 11 days extra to enjoy and discover other cities. It meand i wish to leave china than at 01.08.2017.

Questions:can any expert give me a reliable advice if is possible?where is best to do it(Embassy, consulate in Beijing,or in any travel agency in Beijing?)
I thought also (second question)would it be possible/better to leave the chinese mainland at 21.to HK or Macau(to avoid my overstaying since i am Norwegian citizen and as such i do not need a visa to enter these territories) and fly back from there without entering the Chinese mainland again? where can i get precise and legal advice and instructions?

In the website is written that i can ask for extension or overstaying best immediately by first entry at embassy/consulate or any travel agency who are best familiar with my situation,Can please any of you experts send me informations if you know where is the most efficient place to go and if easier to apply by travel agency,so if is any known which does this job due to your opinion the best?

I am very thankful for informations and links where i can manage to come forward with this.

Friendly regards
John

Hi John,

We have a whole long thread on this forum dedicated to visa extensions in China. Search for "China Visa Extension Thread" and you should find it.

Basically, you can extend a visa in many, many cities in China, at a branch of the local police (called the PSB in English). How easy it is varies enormously: it's very difficult in Beijing. It's very easy in some other cities.

In your situation though, you might want to go to Hong Kong. You don't need a visa for Hong Kong. Hong Kong's a lovely place to explore, and if you can change your flight to fly out of there, you visa problems will be over.

Otherwise, going through the hassle of a visa extension for only a few days might not seem worth it. If you're really keen on an extra 12 days in China though, look through the thread and see places you're heading to where it might be easy to extend a visa. Absolutely don't try and get it done in Beijing.

Let's see: "Thirty days hath September . . . "

I don't see the issue in terms of overstay on your original plans: it's 30 days, isn't it?

As to extensions, there's a long thread at the top of this branch on extensions. Bottom line, you can usually get one, but it can be a hassle and intefere with your travel plans. Almost always a good idea to avoid applying in big cities -- they don't want to be bothered -- but sometimes you have to wait several days for processing, and hanging out in a small place for that long may not be great.

Arriving on June 22 is Day 1. Departing on July 21 is Day 30. Your current visa is fine. Extensions can be hassles and the Chinese government hasn't been that friendly to Norwegian passport holders in the last several years, so granting your extension isn't guaranteed. My suggestion is that you plan your itinerary carefully and make the most of the 30 days and forget about the extension. Put any Hong Kong/Macau at the end, outside that 30 days of Chinese visa.

If you have the time and cash and want to do more of mainland China, you should be able to get a new visa in HK, then head back in. This is normally less hassle than getting an extension inside China if you planned to visit HK anyway.

Actually if he arrives on June 22, day 1 is June 23. So total is 29 days.

????? With a visa, his Day 1 is day of arrival, June 22. It has been this way forever in China.
