Hello

We are planning on heading to Yuanyang, after our travel by sleeper bus from Lijiang back to Kunming. Is there a bus directly from Kunming to Yuanyang? All I found out so far is that we have to go to Jianshui first and then take another bus to Yuanyang. We would prefer the direct way. And then: Is there a possibility to head from Yuanyang directly to the Vietnamese border (Hekou) or - again - is there only the way via Jianshui or Genjiu?

Thanks for all inputs.

That's right, there are no direct bus. You need to stop at Jianshui (which should not be a bad news, there are plenty to see there).

Hello Nica!
Sounds you like "directly"very much ,As i know about ,there are at least two buses run from Kunming to Yuanyang directly every day ,one express leaves at daytime , and the other sleeper departs early evening ,not sure the exact time but you can ask Nanyao Bus station once you get Kunming, and actually it will take you much more time and patience to accept the direct sleeper one. Besides, personally recommend to go to via Genjiu to Yuanyang instead Jianshui in case you miss these direct buses because the road condition between Jianshui and Yuanyang in mountains is so boring unless you have a plan to visit Jianshui which is also remarkable for its history .
Have fun !

Yes there are direct buses. But Jianshui is worth checking out. See here.
