Hi everybody

Has anybody visited Kanbula National Park (near Tongren) or Guide National Geological Park (near Guide) by public transport?
Does anybody have any experiences or informations about them?
The informations in the Lonely planet and the internet are really scarce, we did not even find the exact location on the maps.
As we would be very interested to visit but do not like organized tour, we would appreciate any informations about it! Thanks a lot!

I didn't get to the geological park because all reasonably-priced hotels in Guide are off-limits to foreigners: I got tired of looking for a place and just headed back to Xining. That said, it is a beautiful road trip between Xining and Guide.

@889 Thanks for your contribution! Yes, most hotels around Guide seem to be off-limit to foreigners... we already noted this when we surfed the net to do the hotel bookings to obtain the Chinese visa... I cannot really unterstand this, because it does not look like a very sensitive area to me...?
Did you try to book online or have you been there and asked around yourself? How did you travel - by bus? taxi?

I walked around Guide on foot looking for a place. In the sun. On a hot spring day. There was one expensive place for foreigners online I recall, but it got bad reviews and was on the edge of town next to a busy and noisy highway. I was not going to pay good money for it.

Actually, finding a reasonable place to stay in Xining was also difficult, though not impossible. In any event, lodging problems put a real cloud over what should have been a great trip.

I travelled by public bus.

This sounds quite familiar, we had a similar experience in 2013 walking tiredly through Lanzhou and Langmusi four hours searching for accomodation...
Really a pity... That's why I was wondering how it will be around Yushu, because in Sichuan & Yunnan part of Tibetan highlands it was really easy (also 2013)...

Interestingly, on the same trip last year I had no problem finding a place in Langmusi.

Hi thanks for your information and the offer to translate Chinese site.
I actually found it yesterday on the map (MapsMe), because I know some of the Chinese characters (I do not really speak Chinese however..)I finally could make it out...
But thanks for the offer anyway...
