I'm in the initial stages of planning a trip to China. I know there's great variations in weather but being from the UK I need to go when the weather is either warm or hot with little or no rain (I see enough of that at home). Hoping to head to Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Shanghai and then a few days R&R on Hainan Island. Would September/October be a good time?

That's generally a good time, except that you should avoid the 1st week of October by all means, as that's the National Day holiday week. Please do a Google or search this forum if you don't know what that is.
Cheers!

September will still be very hot & humid. If you'd prefer a little millder try after Golden Week in October.

Thanks. Er, is Golden Week the same as National Day holiday week? Surely not 2 lots of holidays in same week?
