I am trying to book tickets for the Mogao Grottoes. The website is only in Chinese, but the Mogao Grottoes Resevation and Visitors' Centre, listed in the latest LP China book (suggested for those who cannot read Chinese), does not seem to have any contact details. Does anyone know how I can get hold of them?

Alternatively, I am open to tour suggestions, if there are any that might be able to procure tickets at relatively short notice.

We had this question recently, you might want to do a search. Basically, it seems to be next to impossible to book tickets on the website if you're not Chinese. So you're left with waiting until you get to Dunhuang, and hoping you can get a ticket for a foreign-language tour.

Learn all about the island of Awaji, the largest island in Japan's Inland Sea. You can contact me through that website, if you wish.

Yes, foreigners can forget about the website in its current state. Your Dunhuang hotel would be the next option. Failing that, there is an in-town Mogao ticketing office that you can visit when you arrive, to secure a ticket most probably for the next day's tours if it's in busy season.

I do strongly suggest that you call your hotel and ask them to make a reservation on your behalf! July/August is the peak period and you might not be able to get a ticket for the next day or even the day after. Time is precious when you are travelling and you would not want to have to spend a few more days in Dunhuang just waiting to see the Grottoes.

If your hotel is not so keen in helping you, I suggest that you go visit the ticket office in the city and ask. Even if there are no more slots left, you can try your luck by waiting around at the lobby for a while. Sometimes a slot opens up (it is totally random) and you can grab a ticket for the day that you want.
