We will travel from Datong to the Hanging Monastery and then continue to Wutai Shan. After visiting the monastery we will go to the Hunyuan Coach Station and catch the bus on to Wutai Shan. However have our big backpacks. We don't know where we can leave them and we don't want to return to Datong. Does anybody know if we can leave them at the Hunyuan Coach Station or at the entrance to the Hanging Monastery or a local business who will watch them? Any suggestions? If anybody has an email/phone of the place that might store it.
Thanks

There are usually left luggage at or around (little businesses around the station) coach stations in China. The trick is to know the Chinese characters/phrases that indicate this or ask around.

Thanks! Has anybody done my route and left their bags either at Hunyuan Coach Station or a business near the Hanging Monastery or at the Monastery itself?

How are you planning to get from Datong to the Hanging Monastery?

The plan was to take a bus to Hunyuan coach station, then a taxi or bus to the site. However we are flexible just not wanting to backtrack. If we don't find any place to guard our bags we might take them to the site and if we can't find any place to store them, one of us could visit at a time- but obviously not ideal which why I was trying to sort it out now.
Thanks for any help/suggestions.

There are direct buses to the monastery from Datong bus station. In reality, you buy just one ticket and travel by bus to Hunyuan bus station (or in front of it) and there the passengers for monastery are usually transferred into smaller vehicles, usually local cars. Now, I really don't know if it is possible to catch a bus from the monastery area directly to Wutai Shan or is it better to return to Hunyuan bus station. I used direct bus from Datong to monastery, from monastery to Hunyuan and from Hunyuan to Yingxian to see marvelous Muta.

We are not worried about the bus to reach the site but we are worried about our bags. If anybody knows where we can store the backpacks as we don't want to backtrack several hours for them. Thanks

Almost all bus stations in China do provide luggage storage, but in small stations you may have to rouse someone to open it for you. Note very carefully the hours. Bus stations close early in China.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions- we will just go with our bags and see what happens
