My family and I are doing a stop over in Hong Kong for 3 days on our way home from Canada to Australia, and are considering booking this hotel in Causeway Bay. The internet quoted rate is $353 Canadian dollars for all 4 of us in the same room. Does anyone have information, good or bad, about this hotel. It seems very centrally located, across from the MRT station and close to shopping and restaurants. We have never been to HK before, so any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Andy and family.

If the hotel is in King's Rd, it's actually in Tin Hau rather than Causeway Bay. This might not be a bad thing, as Causeway Bay is the second most crowded place in Hong Kong after Mongkok.

Tin Hau is an ok place to stay. Besides the MTR, there is the tram line up and down HK island for HK$2. There is also Victoria Park nearby for some fresh air.

Not sure how much $353 Canadian is, but another option is a YMCA family room in TST, Kowloon, which is around HK$1000 a night.

Thanks for your reply, would you consider this location good for young kids, 4 and 6? A look on a map says the hotel is indeed at 18-24 Kings Road. Thanks again, Andy...

Probably as good as anywhere in a central part of Hong Kong. You are close to Victoria Park (across a busy road), which is ok as parks go in Hong Kong (although not much grass).

The YMCA in TST has a swimming pool, while it looks as if the L'Hotel swimming pool is still to open.

Thank you very much, the calculation from $353 CAD = HK$2400, all taxes included. Would you opt for this, or would you opt for the YHA? The pool may be a deciding factor, as my kids love to swim.

HK$2400 for 3 nights for a family room is pretty good. Also, L'Hotel is a new hotel so everything should look great, while the YMCA is getting on a bit.

See what rate you can get for the YMCA form hotel booking sites; if it's close to L'Hotel I'd probably choose the YMCA, but I have a feeling you might be paying quite a bit more.

Again, very much appreciated. By the looks of things, I may have a good deal at this hotel, and the pool looks like its opening before we get there. Not an issue for my wife and I, but the kids definitely want to swim. Are there any gems for food you can recommend within this area? My wife got hooked on BBQ Pork many years ago in SE Asia, so im guessing that HK would be as good as anywhere in Asia for BBQ Pork. Much appreciated, Andy and family.

There is a Public Swimming Pool in Victoria Park which might suit you.

If the weather is good, you could head to the beach - Repulse Bay on the south side of HK island is ok and easy to get to.

BBQ pork and other roasted meats are available everywhere in Hong Kong. Also try won ton noodles (prawn dumplings in soup with noodles) and dim sum while you are here. Causeway Bay has a fantastic range of restaurants to suit every budget.

Andy.

Tin Hau is a great area. My friend lives just overlooking Victoria Park which I used to walk in every morning drinking my coffee.. There are also lots of nice restaurants in Causeway.

BBQ pork is available ALL over.. and MY its good.. Best place I ever ate this in HK was in Tai Wai (New Territories) and in Sham Shui Po.

Amazing Dim Sum.

Great Indian/Pakistani food if you feel the need for a change (BUTT restaurant in Chungking).... ignore the name of the restaurant, the food is AMAZING.

Shek O is a lovely place. Beach and small community with a tiny temple, good thai food and a great bar on the beach (shek o sailing). The ride there is fantastic too.

Your family might like STANLEY MARKET on HK ISLAND. again the bus ride is great and the market caters to tourists.

A day trip to LAMMA ISLAND or CHEUNG CHAU is graeat to get away from the busy feeling.

ENJOY! I will be there the week before doing an exhibition. Cant wait.
