hello,
has anyone taken the chinese sleeper bus from jinghong to luangprabang? i know there's service between kuming and vientiene so it's should be possible to catch this portion of the route correct? also what is the approximate travel time between between jinghong and LPB and the conditions of the bus? i'm helping an old couple organize this trip. they are fluent in mandarin and laotian.
mozz

Have never used it before so don't have personal info. Mozz, I wouldn't put them on a direct sleeper bus unless they need to get there urgently. My traveling time info is dated but I'd guess it's around 7 hours from Jinghong to the border, 3- 4 hours from the border to Udom Xai and another 7- 8 hours to LP.

I'm planning this journey route myself in my comming trip in this mid year.
I don't know whether there have a sleeping bus from jinghong to LPB, maybe i will take this bus just upon the situation when i arrive there, but my roughly route not including this bus, just as below
1.take bus from jinghong to the border between laos (it take approximate 5 hour)
2.walk through the china customs then go to a small town--boten to process laos entre permit
3.finding a bus to Muang Xai or direct to luangprabang or Luang Numtha in boten
(my imformation is, boten-->Muang Xai 3 hour)(Muang Xai -->luangprabang 5 hour), so from jinghong to Muang Xai will take about 9-10 hour and it will take longer to arrive LPB if you don't wnat to spend a night in Muang Xai,
actually, i haven't desided stay one night in Muang Xai or not.
hopefully, it will help you!
