Hi, my travel plans are coming along thanks to the help of TT and LP.
I cannot see anywhere how to get form Guilin to Kunming in April. I want to ideally go direct and fast, hopefully overnight sleeper? Has anyone done this or have any information for me?

I went a few weeks ago from Guilin to Guiyang, and from Guiyang to Kunming. I took two sleepertrains. I had to stay in Guiyang for a few days because there were no trains out on thesame day that I entered from Guilin (because of the New Year, it won't be a problem now I suppose).
The city of Guiyang is boring, but I visited a small Miao place called Sijiang in those days, which was great! So if you have a few days left...

We did this a while back and just flew. Fast and direct. It was one of those repositioning flights that some of the obscure airlines do and it was cheap (and we were the only passengers) on a 737! I think a backpackers travel agent booked it for us.

theres a train from Guilin to Kunming which i am planning on taking - its No. 2055 and leaves at 8.54am (it cossts Y237 and takes 22 hours) - can anyone confirm this train still exists as i would like to know as well, thanx

Check this site for what are said to be reliable timetables.
#3, your train exists, along with those listed by ellyse, but the K181 is fastest and you can admire a whole new scenery in the morning after waking up in another province.
We did this route (from Kunming to Guilin) and prefered travelling by train instead of flying.
