no need to go so far. You can combine nice scenery with one of your outlying islands trips. One good ropund trip is to head to University station on KCR east line and catch a ferry from Ma Liu Shui pier to Tap Mun (it goes via lots of other stop off points in some fairly secluded areas if you need some serenity), spend a few hours there and then catch a return ferry that takes you back via Wong Shek Pier is Sai Kung country park. From there you can catch a bus into Sai Kung town (the bus trip back is also very nice, it takes about half an hour and takes you past lots of nice secluded bays in Sai Kung) and then head for some seafood. You can then either catch a bus back to Sha Tin for the KCR or a bus back to somewhere like Hang Hau where you can pick up the MTR.

Thanks everyone - Hong Kong is sorted out now.
Has anybody got any secret, fabulous locations in Malaysia (mainland) especially east coast and highlands?
10 days to spend there on the way home and had thought of rail travel?? Suggestions gratefully accepted.

If you're into diving, lying on a beach and eating satay, there is no more fabulous place in the world than the perhentian islands.

But then, it's worth all 10 days.
