When I did this some years ago, I recall hanging around the Baoshan bus station for some long time because onward buses to Tongcheng were not that frequent.

From Yading, the public transport reality is going to work something like this:
Day 1 Yading to Daocheng to Xiangcheng. (spend night in XC)
Day 2 Xiangcheng to Shangri-La. (spend night in S-L)
Day 3 Shangri-La to Jianchuan to Shaxi, afternoon and (spend night Shaxi)
Day 4 Shaxi to Jianchuan to Dali (morning) + Dali - Tengchong (afternoon).
The back way, probably no need to stop in Lanping.
Day 4 Shaxi to Jianchuan (early by private car to catch bus) + Jianchuan - Yunlong. Overnight Nuodeng (yes I think you can stay there)
Day 5 Yunlong - Baoshan (morning) + Baoshan-Tengchong (afternoon).
That's about as fast as it goes on daytime public transport, and IMO it's kind of a shame to not spend another day poking around the Shaxi area and/or the Yunlong area, after the trouble to get there. I can't recall a night bus from Shangri-La to Dali Xiaguan, but if there is one, that would shave a day of the more direct route that bypasses these interesting little village areas, but that would get you into Tengchong afternoon of Day 3.

No direct bus between Daocheng and Shangri-La ?
