Has anyone used Air China flying from Australia? They claim "free cancellation" of standard economy tickets, which I want to do if we get visas for China...

Read the fine print! Airlines often charge a service fee of some sort, even on refund of so-called "fully refundable" tickets. And if you book through a third-party, like an online ticket agency, the agency usually adds its own fee.

Not so unusual but often there is a time limit like 48 or 24 hours.

According to their website refunds will be handled according to the type of ticket purchased.

Thanks everyone...

From Australia I have always got a confirmed flight from STA travel without paying and used that to apply for my visa. Once I have it I book with them anyway.
