Thank you Jiejie for the advice! I've contacted a few (Great Wall Adventure, Great Wall Sensation, etc) but chinahiking.cn was the most helpful and she made a date for us to sign up but should the weather be bad, she said I can arrange for a private tour since I have 6 days in Beijing. I was thinking of totally rescheduling everything to catch the early trips but in the end, the cost and time wasted would be too much. Actually, the cost would be enough for a private tour so in the end I decided to stick to the same schedule :)

I was wondering if you know the best place/city to try and find a place that makes chinese chop/ name stamp? I've tried googling but there isn't a definite answer as it's pretty widespread throughout China but I'm sure the tourist traps would have them but will be really expensive.

Thank you jie jie!

Contact the following to see what they've got planned for GW hiking trips:
Downtown Backpackers Hostel (don't have to stay there to join a trip): www.backpackingchina.com
Leo Hostel (also don't have to stay there to do a trip): www.leohostel.com
Beijing Hikers: www.beijinghikers.com

I think any of these are better choices (and probably cheaper) than what you've mentioned. Also a possibility but depends on their scheduling:

China Culture Center: www.chinaculturecenter.org and go to the "Explore Beijing" tab.

Thank you for the suggestions! I've contacted them, though most doesn't have a schedule for that far yet, they said they will keep me up to date with the plan. Worst come to worst, I will have to arrange a private tour and find the people to go with me or else, if it's just me, it'll be around 3500rmb!

Thank you for the infos! I've book the youth hostel and I'll probably go to that street every day and eat everything! And I'll keep a lookout for the chops, hopefully I'll find a nice authentic place to do it.

Thank you for the advice and tips! I never knew there is that kind of difference in the styling. I'll try to find out more, and maybe they can even do the older version(LiShu,XiaoZhuan, etc) for my simplified Chinese name!

Oh, quick question. I just received an offer to see Peking Opera by the LiYuan theatre by a hostel there, 1,5 hours for 28,99 USD. Others suggested by TripAdvisor is HuGuang, Chang'An and another ZhengYiCi. Do you have a suggestion on where to see genuine Peking Opera? Someone suggested seeing it in National Centre of Performing Arts instead.

Huguang best. Liyuan next best. The NCPA is not the right venue for this. Take earplugs, spend as little as possible, and be prepared to stagger towards the exit at intermission.

Hi Jiejie,

I've been looking around of ways to get to PingYao from Taiyuan Airport and some says to take the train while others prefer the bus. I only have a backpack so I'm okay with lugging it around but which one is more efficient to do from the airport?

Thank you in advance Jiejie!
