Hi!

I am travelling to Tibet in April/May this year and am wondering if it is possible to travel into Bhutan without paying these extreme amounts of money talked about ($200 per day!!) ??

Is the only way of getting in with an agent? Or can you travel independently for a day or two??

If anyone has been or knows of a way around paying these big prices please let me know!

Thank you.

Keep smiling!

In April/May I want to start by bicycle and/or bus.

The route is:

Chandighar, Manali, Rotang La, Kurzom La, Losar, Kye Gompa, Dankar Gompa, Tabo Gompa, Sumdu, Nako, Daubling, then we enter the NH 22 back to Shimla ..

Who has done this trip, are there any areas where I need a permit and finally how´s the road?

Thank you for any information!

Kiro

Hi all
We've just returned from 2 blissful weeks in Sri Lanka and thought I'd share some accomodation information and travel tips.
We hired Lucky (as recommended elsewhere on the forum) for the first few days to visit Sigiriya, Dambulla, Kandy, Ella. Lucky is a wealth of information on history, culture, flora & fauna of SL. He's $50 a day but well worth it. He's a safe driver and speaks excellent English. Having someone pick you up from the airport after 18 hours of travelling without having to…

Hi,
I'm off to India next July and I was thinking on doing a cooking course there. I was interested in doing so the last week I'm there (end of August), so I'm not sure yet where I'll be at that time, probably Delhi or Kolkatta. I was wondering if any of you have any experience on this and could tell me if it's possible to take some kind of cooking course in either of this cities. I'm not really an advanced cook so any one-week begginer's course would do. I'm looking for a serious school…

The BBC world service are running a great series of programmes and articles on India. Entitled India Rising, it looks at al aspects of India and provides a real cultural backdrop to the country. Well worth listening and reading. It gives a great insight to the country.

Find it here

I especially like the radio programme about Bihar - programme 2 under the 'india rising' subsection. Perhaps because I'm from Bihar originally. It gives a dramatic contrast to all the new money, call-centre/BPO and…

My Girlfriend and I are thinking of trekking the Annapurna circuit (without a porter) in mid February. We have done some trekking before (in much warmer parts of Asia and for shorter periods) and are both reasonably fit. Is the a reasonable goal?

- Am I right in thinking that the TRC has been abolished? Are we no longer obliged to take a porter?

- Will all the lodges be open as we dont want to carry a tent etc?

- How can we find out if the high pass is open?

- We will of course bring sleeping bags…
