Hi,

Four friends and I are in the process of making our visa for Pakistan. We're all from Canada, except one, from Switzerland.

We went in a Pakistani embassy in Montreal, a small office. They mentioned new policy regarding the application form, for which you still need an invitation letter. But through my research, I had different advice from locals running touristic agencies, likewise we wouldn't need any invitation letter anymore in order to get the touristic visa.

Can somebody advise on…

Gangtok
While neat and tidy, Gangtok lacks any significant tourist attractions and is mainly a transit destination.

Yuksom
Yuksom takes a long time to get to, but is rewarding once there. Fortunately, it remains off the list of most Indian holidaymakers which ensures that it retains a certain serenity (the volume of Indian holidaymakers in other places, as I have alluded to in the case of Darjeeling, can be overwhelming). There is not a lot to do in Yuksom - it is a place for long walks in the…

I recently visited spent two and a half weeks (late May - early June 2019) in northern West Bengal (Siliguri, Kurseong, Darjeeling) and Sikkim (Gangtok, Yuksom, Namchi). What follows is some observations on my journey that I hope will be of assistance to others.

Northern West Bengal

Bagdogra
I flew from Delhi to Bagdogra (the airport west of Siliguri).
Contrary to expectations, it is possible to obtain a Sikkim Inner Line Permit from the Sikkim tourist desk at the airport. This is very…

Hello

Decided to spend 3 weeks in India in October / start Nov
Looking at traveling through the golden triangle / Rathambore NP and Goa / Mumbai
Flying into Mumbai and train to Goa, fly to Delhi (from Goa) and then fly out of Delhi at the end

It will be Diwali during our time - will we need to book everything in advance during this time? Is there a particular city in Golden Triangle that is best to experience Diwali?

I have seen trains must be booked in advance so I will be looking at this ASAP

Hey all you lovely people.

My wife and I will be visiting Sri Lanka for approx. 18 days in January/February 2019.
I have it pretty much planned, there is an area I'm a bit foggy on around the middle to the end of our stay.
So we'll be in Kandy & from Kandy we wanted to basically head south and do the Adams Peak pilgrimmage overnight, coming down from there we wanted to head to Ella and then onto Mirissa for whale watching. Does anybody have any tips on how is it best to do this?
Also, has anybody…

I am planning to do an ABC trek in mid-September of this year. During my last trip to Nepal for an independent EBC trek I rented a sleeping bag and liner in Thamel for the trip as I was going to India afterward and did not want to lug it around. However I found that all the guesthouses in the Khumbu gave you a heavy blanket which made the sleeping bag unnecessary (with the exception of Gorak Shep).

Since ABC is a lower elevation that EBC, I am thinking I can use my heavy sleeping bag liner that…

  1. I gave up on completing a regular visa application. Is there any problem with simply abandoning it?

  2. If you've visited India before (I have), they want to know where you've stayed. I can't remember exactly how the question is worded, but they ask for an "address" not "addresses". Is one address sufficient?

  3. They ask for a reference. Could I use a hotel where I stayed previously or a travel agent in India that I used on my last trip, or do I need to list a hotel…

Some may recall that I mentioned a new 'Seven Passes' Trek that's been in the pipeline for the last year or so as an alternative to the classic Annapurna Circuit? Well after batting it back and forth over the last few weeks with the agency I'm using and going over the details I can say that as of today I'm locked and loaded to go in early October - the owner of the agency has even decided to come along to get a full perspective on the new route and handle the logistics along the way.

So if…
