Weather in late March and early April

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / India

Hello
India has been on my bucket list for so long but as I work in education I can only travel in holiday periods. As Easter is earlier in 2018 I am exploring the possibility of travelling to India late March/early April. My concern is the weather, has anyone got any tips or advice for the hot weather. I understand the temperatures may be around 20C during the night but daytime temperatures may average around 36C. I aim to visit Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and Pushkar

Hi Lizzylevitt86173,
I went to India march/April 2013 travelled from UK to dubai to Mumbai to new Delhi to himalayas to Agra to Goa to Mumbai to dubai back to UK. The weather was hot but bearable. Temperatures from 32 to 40 degrees cooler at night time. We stayed in AC controlled hotels which made it bearabe. The food we encountered was brilliant it was standard in places maybe if we looked harder we may have found a better variety but it was mostly vegetarian. We had the most amazing kebabs in new Delhi however and Agra was where we had the most delicious food. Mmm .... Goa was fun... we enjoyed the train ride from new Delhi to goa. .. watch out for pick pockets and keep valuables safe. Stay alert on the trains. ... train food is yummy.... himalayas was a dream .... lovely people sights were awesome.... hotels cheap .... please stay safe and have a great time.. x

Thank you, great advice. I am thinking of adding Goa for a few days on the beach, not quite decided yet :)

End of season in Goa, with beach receding in preparation for monsoon.

Expect at least low 40s for the places you mentioned.

In India the weather isn't just a factor. It can dominate everything. If I were going to go to the north at that time of year, I'd head for the hills. I wouldn't fancy the places you've mentioned at that time of year. That said, I'd probably visit the south rather than the north. Although March/April is still hotter than at other times of the year in the south, it's actually cooler in the south at that time of year than in the north, and the south is generally an easier place to travel than the north, which is a consideration if it's your first time in India.

Thank you for your responses. The only other time I could go is August which isn't the best of season either but may be slightly cooler

Hah! Check out my thread, immediately after yours, asking for advice on where to go in August. To be honest, because of the monsoon August is probably worse than the hot season, but Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan are both excellent in August.
