I case anyone is interested, I recently applied for the Indian visa in Colombo. It seems they throw a dart at a board to decide the type of visa you receive.

Both my partner and I applied for 6 months multiple entry with a cover letter of why we wanted this type.

She received a 6 month double entry on an Irish passport.
I was given a 3 month double entry on UK passport.
To be honest its a huge pain in the bum, the only difference between us is 60 miles or so of water and I have a beard. Also mine cost almost £100 compared to less than £30 :(

A US citizen was given a one month triple entry, four other tourists received six month but still only double entry even though they applied for multiple. Seems that multiple isn't being handed out.

And you always wonder... How'd they get a spaceship up?

There are good reasons why they charge British people more than others, but you do wonder about the consistency...

..I remember many years ago, queuing for hours in the Indian consulate in Kathmandu(it was outdoors, across a garden, and raining)...the guy in front of me got only a month,I got 6 ;-)

He had dreads though,we assumed that was the reason why.....

The cost is reciprocal, but so should be the policies.

5 of us, all Indians, travelled to the US on a business trip. All of us had 10 year US visas. We all landed in Los Angeles (LAX). I got stamped in for one year. Another person for 15 days. 2 others for 3 months. One person got stamped in for 6 months.

And they call themselves a super power.

And here you were certain that India learned all that from the British ;)

I just thought I would let people know, from what I had read on here about people applying in Colombo I had (perhaps rather arrogantly) assumed that I would be given six months no problems if it was asked for. I am by no means scruffy and was surprised that my wife would be given a different duration to me. We are cycle touring so for me to only have three months is a bit of an issue!
