Trekking mid july for 4-5 daysCountry forums / Indian Subcontinent / India
Need urgent suggestion/advice I am really itching for a week away in the mountains. Longing for the solitude and the crispness of the mountains. I am planning to fly in from Stockholm to Delhi, and most likely hook up with a few buddies. Unortunately, can only spare a week’s travel in mid-july. We would like to go on a 4-5 day trek. Moderate trekking preferred. And, by that I mean walking/hiking around 6 to 8 hrs! We had initially thought Nepal and I was about book the air tickets, but then I chanced upon the kangra valley, and thought why not? I can’t seem to make my mind up on the options, and am cheekily outsourcing for info here It's a pity that we just have 4-5 days of actualy trekking time, and hence I want to optimize the time. I am leaning towards dharamsala area. It appears there is a flight from Del to dharamsala. So, do any of you kind souls have more info on options? Any info will be highly appreciated. Cross posted in other forums too.
I'm afraid mid-July is rainy season in most parts of Indian sub-continent, hence Nepal is also not good destination. So, I'm not sure if it would be a great trekking time when landslides occur in many mountains. The only option (as per my guess) is to move to the rain-shadow areas of Ladakh or Spiti region in Himachal. Though you've clearly mentioned that you don't want to go into dry mountains but in Ladakh you can get solitude (your primary concern). There are small treks in the region. | 1
Right.
One day should be enough.
The Eastern Himalayas are wetter compared to the Western Himalayas so these places should be the worst of the four options. | 2
better head to parvati valley in himachal pradesh and make sure you go to kheerganga | 3
hey, did you decide on your trip yet? I'm going to be there around the same time and looking for something similar, would be awesome if you could point me in the right direction Thanks! | 4
I am there in Himachal at that time too. How long g are you gonna be there and during which time of the month? | 5
So, I am back again after a few weeks absence. Thanks for all your inputs. In between we had almost made up our mind to do the great lakes trek in Kashmir. However with the latest upswing in violence this trek is off. What do you guys reckon? any inputs and recommendations on trek operatores are appreciated:) Bring on the Himalayas, i say :) | 6
